Ferry

It is also possible to get to Nagasaki via a short ferry trip from Kumamoto to Shimabara and then get a bus from Shimabara to Nagasaki. I would definitely recommend the ferry trip as it gives one the opportunity to take some rather breath taking photos of mount Fugendake, a still-active volcano that sadly claimed the lives of more than 40 people in 1990.

Ferry fee: 800 (approximately) Duration: 1 hour (approximately)

As well as this, you could take some time to view the sights in Shimabara. These include Shimabara Castle (500yen to enter), an 8.6 meter statue of Buddha entering Nirvana, the natural spring water that runs through the town containing koi fish (koi no mizube michi) and old samurai houses.

Famous Places

  • Heiwa Kinen Koen(Nagasaki Peace Park)

The park has Heiwa Kinen Zou, and it stands at the Peace park in Nagasaki city and was made by Seibou Kitamura. The monument expresses the love of god and mercy of Buddha. As the right hand, it represents threat of Atomic bomb, and the other hand, it shows peace, and his closed eyes stands for pray for the souls of the dead. This monument was built in August 8th 1955, and the height is 9.7 meters, the height of the pedestal is 3.9 meters, and the weight is about 30 tons. His right hand has the lightning rod. It took 4 years to complete the monument, and it took about 50 million yen. People who are Japanese and foreigners raised the money, so about 30 million yen was for fund-raising. The monument is reaally important for us, I think, and I never forget the miserable incident. The affair must be passed down from generation to generation.

The park is known as Cyocyo hujin. Do you know her? She is called madam butterfly and the place is really concerned her. In 1980s, a woman whose name is Sara lived in Higashi yamate, and she told the story. According to the story, "Madam Butterfly" was written. There are very beautiful flowers and buildings.

  • Mt. Unzen

Mt. Unzen places in Shimabara, Nagasaki. In 1991, the mountain was erupted and the damage was very serious. I remember watching the news and the sight was very terrible... However until in 1995, an eruption stopped, so now it is OK. However the mountain is an active volcano, so we cannot say the mountain is very safety.

Dejima was a fan-shaped artificial island in the bay in Nagasaki. From in 1641 to in 1859, Japan traded with the Netherlands in here. It takes 500 yen for an adult. Dejima opens 8:00 to 18:00.

Amusement parks

Huis Ten Bosch places in Sasebo, Nagasaki, and it holds a lot of events depending on each season. In spring, tulips are very special in here, in summer, the park has really wonderful fireworks festival! In autumn, the park is decorated by many flowers, and in winter, the town changes the special town which called "the town of lights". All of them are really unique and very beautiful. If you like, go to the wonderful town four times a year, and look for your favorite points! The town has four faces, and all of them are really different!! The admission is 3,200 yen, the free pass ticket is 5,600 yen, and the moonlight admission (you can enter the park from 17:00 to the closing time) is only 2,000 yen! You can select the ticket depend on your plan. All of the prices are for adult, and the admission for children is more cheaper than adult.

Nagasaki Bio Park is very famous zoo in Nagasaki. The park places in Saikai city, Nagasaki, and the admission is 1600 yen for adult, 1000 yen for senior high school student and junior high school student, and more younger is 700 yen. Moreover the zoo has other discount. It opens 9:00 to 17:00. The park's concept is that only seeing is not so fun, so you should enjoying, learning, and touching. Because of the idea, the park has a lot of events. Most of the zoo, only children can enjoy, but the zoo in different from other zoo, I think. All generation can enjoy the park.

Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium is places in Nagasaki city and the facility opens from 9:00 to 17:00 and the aquarium is closed on every third Wednesday. It costs 500 yen for adult and the admission for 3 years old to junior high school student is 300 yen. When I was a little, the name of aquarium is Nagasaki aquarium, but the finances were very bad. However to defeate the condition, the aquarium was readjusted and changed the name Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium. In the park, of course, you can see a variety of penguins, but also see fishes that are living in Nagasaki bay. The aquarium teaches us that nature is really important for us. After you go to there, you can feel good and learn many important things.

Onsen

Yu no hana onsen places in Omura, Nagasaki and the facility is very close to the Nagasaki airport. Because of this, you can go and find there very easy, I think. The park has many shops, including restaurants, gas stand, convenience store, karaoke, and onsen! The building is located the Omura bay, so the scenery is very good, and sometimes you can see many airplanes which are taking off or arriving. It opens 10:00~24:00(Sunday to Thursday), 10:00~25:00(Friday and Saturday). It takes 650 yen for an adult, but if you become the member, you can take the bath for 550 yen.

Restaurants

The main food of the shop is hamburger steak! I really recommend the lunch menu and it osts 1050 yen. The set includes a salad, rice, pickles, hamburger steak, pot pie, and coffee. The hamburger steak is really delicious and pot pie is good!! The home store places in Ureshino, Nagasaki but Omura also has the shop. The shop opens 11:00 to 22:00.
