Getting Started

From Kuma-i

Jump to: navigation, search

To edit this website, you have to create a user account to give yourself some identity on the system. If you do so, your user accounts allows you to set up a User page, and your user name is given when you change things. Though you don't have to set up a user page, please consider doing so, with a very brief introduction (a first name and why you have joined), so it is easier to separate out potential spam accounts. Users also have the ability to mark their changes as minor and can add pages to a watchlist.

You can set up a user account by following the Log in link on (practically) any page on Kuma-i.

You'll need to choose a user name for yourself. This should be short, unique, and preferably not obscene. It can have letters and numbers, but no spaces or punctuation marks. Some good choices might be your first name ("Taro") or your first and last initial run together ("TaroS"). Enter the user name in the Your User Name slot.

You also need a password. Choose a strong password with letters, numbers, and punctuation characters. Please don't use a password that you use for other Web sites or programs. Enter your new password in the fields labelled Your password and Retype password.

Optionally, enter an email address where you can be reached in the Your e-mail field. This is entirely optional, but can be helpful if other users want to send you email through the Kuma-i wiki. On extremely rare occasions, the Kuma-i wiki Administrators may need to contact you, and having your email helps. See our Privacy policy for more info.

Also optionally, you can enter your "real name". This will be the name used to for crediting you for your work on Kuma-i. If you don't want to have your real name shown, just leave this blank, and your user name will be used for credits instead.

Once you have a user account set up, you may want to use the Preferences to customize the way Kuma-i behaves for you.

After that, you are ready to go! Just click on the edit tab on the top of any page. You can also add links to new pages as well as provide links for outside pages. For more information and a general outline, please check out the What do I write? page

Please note that every listing here is considered to be an implicit recommendation. To paraphrase what they say in my hometown, if you can't say something nice about someone or some place, please don't say it here. If you feel that an entry is underserved, please contact one of the administrators with your concerns. The reason for this is two fold: First, to avoid any legal repercussions and second, to keep a positive feeling in the wiki. Any question can be directed to admin name.
