  • Dragon's Kitchen Dynasty is a chinese restaurant with a great atmosphere and located in Hikarinomori.There are two stores in Kumamoto,one in Hikarinomori and one in Mashiki.The restaurant foods is a little rich, and the price range is from 1000 yen to 1500 yen par dish. Vietnamese restaurants and food shops

There are not many Vietnamese food places in Kumamoto, but it is becoming more and more popular!


Liti is a Vietanmese restaurants run by a Japanese lady.There are several Vietnamese dishes like chicken pho or coconut milk curry and drinks such as Vietnamese coffee or mango juice. There is also kinds of che, a Vietnamese dessert made of green peas.The prices vary from 400 to 700 yen with add on drink sets available. Ethnic accessories are also sold there, the shop's atmosphere is like Southeast Asia. The owner goes to Vietnam twice a year and gets supplies for her restaurant.

  • Shinto-cafe is located along the shimotori street. There is ice cream store; Häagen Dazs at the first floor and Shinto cafe is at the second floor. If you go upstairs, you can find really cozy couches and you can have a seat there too. If you wanna take a rest after shopping or something, you can go here and you'll feel fine.
  • Shankal G is located in the Kamitori Street. The coffee shop has the combinations of Asian and Indian Style atmosphere. The most popular drink this coffee shop is Chai. But mango and guava juice are also very delicious. In addition, We also tried the desserts and all of them are very tasty. Its open hours is 11:00-23:00.
  • Yoru Cafe is a memeber of the COCORO OFFICE caffe retaurant chain located near the Shakaihoken Center.The shop severs maily several kinds of desserts such as cakes and parfaits as well as light meals like pasta.   • Ura Cafe is a member of the COCORO OFFICE caffe restaurant group located in East Nagamine. That's why there are similarities between Yoru cafe and Ura cafe. For example, they have the same kinds of cakes and breads. However, the size of parfaits are quite different. Ura cafe's parfait is big enough for two people. Alcoholic drink

Sligo

This is Irish pub, and you can drink Guinness, Irish whiskey, Scotch whiskey and Irish liquer, etc. There are many kinds of foods, too. Homemade hamburgers are especially popular. You can also play darts at this pub, and a event for dart is took place periodically. The pub is opened from PM7:00 to AM3:00. The place of it is near Higo Ozu station, about 5 minutes on your foot. Noodles

Kumamoto Ramen is similar to Kyushu Ramens like Hakata Ramen, but has some differences between them.

  • Ten-shin An is soba shop in Heisei, Kumamoto city near the Sun Live City Kumanan. There are soba[of couse], many varieties of Sake and side dishes like dashimaki.

  • Inoue sobais a famous soba shop in Kumamoto. This shop has long history from Edo. They keep soba shop for about 140 years. If you go to Inoue soba, it is natural to wait 30~40 minutes.

  • Ooishi soba Hontenis also a famous shop in kumamoto and nationally. Sometimes famous name visit Ooishi soba Honten. There is in Konnyamachi near New Sky Hotel.

  • Dagojiru is one of the famous Kumamoto's local dishes, you know. Dago means dando in kumamoto dialect.

Ibgredients are dango are made from flour, carrot, japanese radish, burdock, pork and so on. Some People make it with soysauce, other people make with soybean paste. Both are so popular in Kumamoto. I think there is a general trend that people live in Kumamoto city like soysauce taste, and people live in other areas like soybean paste taste. Incidentlly, I like soybean paste taste. Tsuruya Udon is a cheap udon restaurant located next to Koshi spa in Kikuchi, Kumamoto. The price range is from 270 yen to 700 yen,and there are many kinds of udon. Shisenbimi is a small dandan noodle restaurant on the Kokai Retro Shopping Street.One bowl of dandan noodle is 580 yen and you can choose the level of spiciness from 0 to 4 (maybe). Shoyo-ken is one of original Kumamoro ramen restaurants near Kokai retro street shopping street. "Ichiran" is a little ramen shop very near the Shimatori. The company itself started in Fukuoka and now has many shops in the Kyushu area, and has even recently opened one in New York. The good thing about Ichiran is that you can choose exactly how you want your ramen, and it's all the same price. For example, you can choose the softness of the noodles, the fat content, how spicy you would like it and how much garlic you would like. You also get your own small booth to eat in, making it great for people eating alone.

Sweets

  • Ikinari dango is also one of the famous Kumamoto's local dishes. Ikinari dango is a kind of Manju; Japanese-style stuffed with adzuki-bean paste and sweet poteto. It is so easy for us to make Ikinari dango. Ingredient are just flour, adzoki, and sweet potato. I want to teach how to make Ikinari dango. First, knead the flour adding water. Then, to add a pinch of salt to the dough is the knack. Next, wrap up the steam potetoes and adzuki in the dough. In the end, steam them. "Ikinari" means "suddenly", because we can make them "ikinari".

  • Jindaiko is a japanese sweets. It's like a sweet bean jelly (youkan). The outside is bean paste and the inside is rice cake. I'll tell you how to eat it. You don't need to tear its wrapping with your hand. All you have to do is to cut it cross-shaped with knife. Then unwrap it and eat! You can buy it at Koubai.

Shimotori Area

  • Daimonji is next to Parco department store. It specializes in Okonomiyaki, a kind of pancake that is not sweet and it has vegetables, meats and sometimes sea food in it.
  • Oden is a German restaurant with a wide selection of world beers. [[1]]

Healthy kichen places near Daiei at Shimotori area.This restaurant is very very delicious!!! It's smorgasbord and drinking area. You can eat as much as you like for 2,000 yen inside two hours there. The menu is variety!! Japanese-style dishes, Western-style dishes, Japanese cakes, cakes and so on. You had better go there with your friends(^-^)

Kamitori Area

"Zakkokuyasan no daidokoro" is very nice restaurant. This resraurant is back of Kumamoto hotel catsle. This restaurant think of health, so you can eat natural food. It is very delicious and reasonable. I work there as a kitchen staff. Please come and eat there!!!

Tsukide/Kumamoto Kenritsu Daigaku

  • Little Kitchen: this small casual restaurant (3 tables and a counter) has a range of foods, rather eclectic but leaning towards French. It opens at lunchtime for 740-yen four-course lunch sets and in the evening for a la carte meals. Serves a frequently changing selection of foreign beers that are not available anywhere else in Kumamoto, and indeed are hard to obtain anywhere in Japan.   • Salute: It's an Italian restaurant have some kind of italian home cooking like pasta, pizza, soup, etc. Also, they have lunch sets. If you are student, it will be 100yen off. You just show your student ID card. Therefore, Saturday's lunch set, they have desert service for women.

Karaou no Karaage is a small fried chicken shop in Kokai Retro Street near Kumadai.One of their popular items is a 250-yen friend chicken lunch box that consists of six or seven pieces of friend chicken with rice and vegetables.The lunch box is popular, and only a limited number are made everyday. The shop sells fried chicken, fried birdskin and french fries as well.

  • Kinko, located by Kengun jietai. A discount liquor store, it has a variable selection of foreign foods, which sometimes includes anchovy paste, taco shells, various chips, coconut milk.

Also, a surprising number of things can be found at various supermarket chains, often without rhyme or reason, so don't assume that because one grocery store doesn't have it, others won't as well

  • Super Miyahara, located in Takuma is one of the cheapest super markets in Kumamoto. Their original box meals are especially popular because one box meal is 250 yen each. There are especially cheap items outside the shop. There are also a Taiyaki and yakitori shops on the shop's property.

I want to introduce the place which you can eat very delecious Okonomiyaki at very cheap price. It is the "Okonomiyaki Miyake". It is like small mom-and-pop candy store in Japanese. So you can eat many Japanese snack there. Fahtermore you can eat Okonomiyaki. The Okonomiyaki which is the most cheapest is 280yen. In addition, it is very decicious. How to go there from Kumamoto gakuen University is easy. Firstly, find "Hakuzan Doori(Lute Hakuzan). Next, go straight for Kumamoto Station. Then You will be able to find " Mos Bargar" right. You can find "Okonomiyaki Miyake" in front of it.
